On the Young Generation
As a senior member of the Baby Boomer Generation, I look at the young generation, mainly with satisfaction that they are bright and the world will advance as it should. However, this confidence is sometime shaken.
-- Visiting a province with which I am unfamiliar, I bought a latte at a nearby coffee shop. As the college age young lady rang up the charge, I asked what percentage the sales tax was.
" I don't know." she said.
"When you buy clothes, don't you care how much tax you pay? " I asked.
"No. I just pay.", was the reply.
-- I ordered a drink at a well known international fast food chain. At the counter, I faced a young lady frustrated that the computerized cash register was not functioning. The bill was $ 2.50 and I gave her $ 3.00. She seemed stressed, panicking, I would say; looking around for help to figure out what to do. You owe me 50 cents, I said. Still full of anxiety, she called the manager who confirmed the amount.
- I just bought a tablet computer at a high tech equipment store and had to give an address for the product guarantee.
"Quito, Ecuador", I said.
"Is that in Canada? " she asked.
I called the manager for help.
