What do you do when you arrive exhausted and with little time to see the sights? Do you catch up on some much needed sleep; or, do you tough it out and try to savour as much as you can of the surroundings?
I arrived in Amsterdam from Berlin at the end of almost six weeks of travel in North America and Europe. I was thoroughly exhausted. By the time I got to the hotel, it was 3 PM and the bed looked very inviting. But, it had been a long time since I had been in Amsterdam and the thrill of being there was compelling. Camera ready, I took the trolly downtown. My flight to Canada was early the next morning and there would only be time to walk around the downtown core and take a one hour boat ride along the city's canals.
I could rhyme off a long list of reasons why one would love visiting Amsterdam in summer; but, I won't. Let's just say that the two things that every visitor cannot help but to notice are the omnipresence of bicycles and boats. Both symbolize to me a love of the outdoors.
I invite you to enjoy some images of my evening.
